  • Where To Eat Breakfast in Canary Wharf

Breakfast at Caravan

Caravan Canary Wharf, Reuters Plaza

Start with the most important meal of the day: breakfast. From bowls of fresh fruit to fry-ups, the whole family has plenty to choose from with Caravan’s breakfast menu. Its sourdough toast is always a winner – top with its house spreads of berry jam, almond or sunflower seed butter.

To get at least one of your five-a-day in first thing, wash it down with one of the fresh juices or smoothies, or if you’re feeling more adventurous, try a fresh juice shot such as the turmeric, ginger, cayenne and lemon concoction. Meanwhile sleep-deprived adults will be oh-so thankful for Caravan’s free flowing filter coffee that’s served from Monday to Friday until 4pm – the caffeine hit is sure to help you keep going throughout the day.

The Breakfast Club

The Breakfast Club, Crossrail Place

We can’t write about breakfast without giving a special mention to The Breakfast Club. The American-style daytime caff has what seems to be every single breakfast option we can think of and is open every day from 8am and until 4pm on Monday and Tuesday, 11pm Wednesday to Saturday and 5pm Sunday, meaning there’s no need to fret about missing out on the breakfast menu if you’re having a late start – ideal with kids in tow. Think pancakes, burritos, French toast, Benedicts and all of the classic dishes – view its mouth-watering menu

Harbour Quay Boardwalk

Boardwalk, Harbour Quay Gardens

Once fuelled up, why not start by exploring Canary Wharf’s numerous parks, gardens and squares? Or take a walk along the waterside boardwalk at Harbour Quay. Whilst there, spot the iconic Minotaur and Hare on Bench sculpture and join the Children’s Art Trail, or simply wander around and admire London’s largest collection of outdoor public art. The Summer Lights show until 20 August is also worthy of a special mention, where you can admire how outdoor installations by artists are enhanced by the play of natural light.

For a more structured activity, capture what you see on camera and submit your photos of the art, architecture or nature on the Estate, with the chance to win up to £1,500 in Canary Wharf Gift Cards as part of the Canary Wharf photography competition. The competition runs until Friday 16 September, and has both junior and adult competition categories, meaning all the family can participate! Photographs can be taken using smartphones or cameras but must be taken on or of the Canary Wharf estate.

  • Where To Eat Lunch in Canary Wharf

If the weather allows, grab picnic essentials from Waitrose & Partners, M&S Simply Food or Tesco Metro and sit down in Canada Square to watch a film as part of the Family Film Club. The rest of this summer’s screenings include The Princess & The Frog, The Incredibles and Shark Tale. There’s also a packed schedule of sports screenings and movie nights – click here for more information. Both are free; simply turn up and enjoy.

Elsewhere, roll up your sleeves and get stuck in with a family meal at Nando’s, or slurp satisfying and healthy udon noodles at Marugame Udon, and don’t forget double-fried Korean chicken at Seoul Bird

  • What To Do: Afternoon Activity Suggestions

In the afternoon head to Montgomery Square, where you’ll find the bright and bold minigolf course designed by artists Craig and Karl – it’s the perfect activity for all ages and abilities. It’s also free to play and there’s no need to book, so just rock up and see the event stewards who will provide you with clubs and balls to play. The equally colourful free ping pong tables are also in this spot, providing more opportunity to compete against family members. Remember, it’s the taking part that counts! Both activities are open daily from 12noon to 6pm.

For more adrenaline-fuelled activity, race against one another at the UK’s fastest indoor go karting track, Capital Karts. Or if a more sedate experience is more your thing, book a self-driving experience at GoBoat where the whole family can sail down the dockland waters. Last but not least, why not try Open Water Swimming, where you can take a dip in the first open water swimming venue in Canary Wharf and literally soak up the views. Swim sessions are lifeguarded, and the water is regularly tested to ensure it reaches high levels of cleanliness, so you can enjoy the water safely!

  • Where To Eat Dinner in Canary Wharf

After all of that fun, finish off the day with a heart and soul-warming bowl of pasta at the family friendly restaurant Emilia’s Crafted Pasta, or for a meal to remember book a table at Shutters where you can savour fresh Cornish produce cooked Californian-style. Finally, if you feel like being transported across the globe through cuisine, head to Wharf Kitchen where seven eateries are brought together in a vibrant market hall.
