Many of Canary Wharf’s residents, workers and visitors will not be able to travel to see family this year but there are still plenty of ways to make Christmas feel as special as ever. Dozens of cuisines are represented across Canary Wharf so for a taste of home, wherever that may be, savour a meal in one of the estate’s restaurants – all ready to welcome you safely back – and look forward to delicious take-away or home delivery too.

When it comes to food and drink, Christmas favourites look very different across the world. In Crossrail Place, Ole & Steen’s enticing array of traditional treats reflects Denmark’s love of festive food. Feast on a turkey or vegan toastie, Juleboller sweet pastry and, back by popular demand, the Honning Hjerts (Honey Hearts) latte. The Christmas version of Ole & Steen’s signature Social pastry features the winning combination of chocolate and orange, and everything can be ordered via Deliveroo.

If it’s Spanish food that conjures up a taste of home and you live within 2.5 miles of Ibérica in Cabot Square, you can have everything from tapas, cheeses, meats and charcuterie to store cupboard essentials and wine delivered straight to your door, immediately. From Spain to Italy: the only place to get the most authentic Mozzarella di Bufala – Delicate, Intense or Smoked – is Obicà Mozzarella Bar, Pizza e Cucina in the West Wintergarden. Enjoy a pizza while there and choose plenty of cheese to take home too.

If you and your family usually eat fish at Christmas, as is traditional in many parts of Europe, the lobster and prawn cocktail at The Ivy in the Park (Canada Square Park) is tempting, as is the turbot meuniere – both Luxury Festival Specials. Complete indulgence comes in the form of champagne with truffle and cheese gougères, a cocktail that nods to New York – the Gingerbread Manhattan – and a dessert intriguingly named Letter to Santa.

Bar Bolivar in Reuters Plaza is the place for those yearning for Cuban cocktails and bites or sharing plates, while authentic Jamaican flavours can be found at Mama’s Jerk (Jubilee Place). If it’s Japanese dishes you love, you’ll find everything from meat cooked on the Robata grill to the freshest sushi and sashimi at ROKA in the Park Pavilion. For DIY festive fun, try ROKA’s maki at home kit. Meanwhile Sticks’n’Sushi in Crossrail Place has a special Sticks’n’Santa menu for two that combines familiar Christmas ingredients with Japanese delicacies. You can even create your own bespoke menu with its expert chefs.

For a taste of India, Chai Ki’s Toddy Shop in Crossrail Place has not one but three party menus, comprising street-inspired bar plates, ‘comfort food’ and sugar and spice desserts. Book for lunch and dinner or opt for take-away or delivery.

If you’re cooking at home, Waitrose & Partners in Canada Square is the largest branch in the country and stocks everything you could need when it comes to ingredients, and drinks too.
