Charles Hadcock: Helisphere

In Helisphere Charles Hadcock has combined the characteristics of the sphere with that of the helix – a curve in three-dimensional space. The sphere is made in horizontal sections, which spin out of alignment with its skin, causing a curved and stepped distortion that is the helix curve.
Walking around the sculpture provides the viewer with a multiplicity of gently changing shapes. Both Helisphere and Torsion II, also in the permanent collection, were shown here in his exhibition in Jubilee Park in 2011.
