Giles Penny: Two Men on a Bench
1995 | bronze | Wren Landing (exterior) | Art Map reference: B10
Giles Penny’s Two Men on a Bench is a large bronze work in the classical figurative tradition, which has a contemplative air as well as an element of fun. Simplified surfaces and contours imbue it with a monumental presence and narrative sculptural language.
Penny came to the attention of the Canary Wharf Group when this, and another of his bronzes, Man with Arms Open, was shown here in 1999 as part of the Millennium exhibition, The Shape of the Century. Both works were subsequently purchased.
