Picnic in the Park

Get the picnic blankets at the ready and pick your spot in Canary Wharf’s many parks including Canada Square Park, Bank Street Park, Harbord Square Park and the aptly-named Jubilee Park, where there will be specially decorated purple picnic benches to sit on. There will also be live music to enjoy as well as coverage of the Queen’s official celebrations shown on the screens in Canada Square Park and Union Square Park.

Fill up your picnic baskets with all sorts of goodies for a Jubilee picnic to remember; Waitrose & Partners has food fit for a Queen, from coronation chicken to the royal favourites including trifle and Victoria sponge cake, discover its bounty here. M&S Simply Food also has a whole range dedicated to the Jubilee – click here for inspiration aplenty. Try its limited-edition ale that’s been made using only UK-grown hops and comes in a beautifully illustrated bottle. Finally, Tesco Metro has pulled out all the stops with everything from finger food to Jubilee jelly – head to the Cabot Place store to see some of the range.

Canary Wharf’s bakeries such as Paul are serving up sandwich and scone platters which are sure-fire hits, as is its brand new macaron cakes in pink berry, vanilla and chocolate. Meanwhile Ole & Steen has teamed up with Meringue Girls to produce a limited edition Ole & Queen, a white chocolate and lemon sponge, topped with strawberry mousse, blueberries, strawberries, whipped cream and finished with a sugar plaque, available as an individual or a large cake serving six – it’s perfect for such an occasion.

Alfresco Dining and Outdoor Activities

This Jubilee bank holiday weekend, make the most of the weather and dine outside at one of Canary Wharf’s alfresco locations – bask in the sun on one of the terraces, outdoor bars or pop-up spaces. Sip Ibérica’s La Terraza signature gin and tonics and dine on its authentic Spanish dishes; savour Yolé Ice Cream that’s full of taste but with no added sugar, in Canada Square Park, or for a meal to remember head to Hawksmoor Wood Wharf’s terrace that adjoins its eco-friendly floating pavilion. Pre- or post-food and drink, there’s plenty to keep you occupied this Platinum Jubilee weekend, including free minigolf, ping pong and basketball, or you can get the adrenaline pumping by racing the UK’s fastest indoor go-karting track at Capital Karts, or have a more sedate experience by sailing around the waterways at GoBoat.

Retailer Celebrations

For the ultimate afternoon tea, The Ivy in the Park is hosting a Queen’s Platinum Jubilee version and the brasserie will be decorated with iconic red, white and blue design touches such as sculptural floral arrangements.

It will be serving up cured smoked salmon and cream cheese finger sandwiches, warm fruited scones and almond macarons. The jewel in its dessert menu has to be the showstopping bombe filled with mint chocolate ice cream, topped with a platinum fondant crown, while its red velvet raspberry cake with sugar-coated strawberries will be decorated in the Union Jack colours. Its commemorative cocktails will have regal titles such as Lilibet, Queen Victoria and The Virgin Queen – the perfect way to toast your friends, family – and her Royal Highness, of course, in style.

Elsewhere, Charbonnel et Walker has Platinum Jubilee gift boxes aplenty, while you can click and collect these gifts and decorations from Waitrose & Partners.
