Conscious gifting
Where to shop for sustainable, eco-friendly and ethical presents in Canary Wharf this Christmas
Shop mindfully this season with brands factoring the planet’s wellbeing into their business models. For conscious consumers of skincare, there’s Rituals, which is committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030, and Aesop, where all products are vegan and cruelty-free. The ethos at MALIN+GOETZ is ‘less but better’, and all packaging can be reused, recycled or refilled. The same is true at Kiehl’s and L’Occitane, which has a specific EcoRefill Collection. Space NK Canary Wharf, meanwhile, champions ‘clean beauty’, which not only refers to products that are free from harmful ingredients, but that also showcase a concerted effort to manufacture more consciously.
For the giftee who loves fashion but loves the planet more, Paul Smith pieces branded with a Sun Logo are made with a minimum of 50% low-impact materials. Further, the brand’s Repair, Restore, Refresh service promises to repair old garments so you don’t need to buy new. There is a similar offering at GANT, which offers lifetime repairs to its jeans. Levi’s is also doing its bit to tackle the climate crisis, cumulatively saving almost 13 billion litres of water as of 2020.
The gift of giving
The ELBA Toy Appeal is returning to Jubilee Place this year, inviting you to donate a gift to a child in the local area. The charity delivers £100,000 worth of gifts each year, spreading festive cheer to those who need it most.
Meanwhile, The Felix Project and Canary Wharf Group’s Green Scheme will provide more than 1,000 meals each week for local charities, saving over 500kg of food from going to waste. Whether you’re a resident, worker or visitor, you can sign up to volunteer via The Felix Project’s website.
Finally, shop vintage skate and streetwear at Circle Collective’s Jubilee Place store, where every sale helps a young person into work. All proceeds go to training young people in the skills they need, meaning that not only do you leave the store looking good, but you’re also doing good.
