Mothers Day on the Wharf

With Mother’s Day just around the corner, now’s the time to get your plans together and choose a gift, experience, or both that will show her how much you value everything she is and does. Find a personalised present, organise a day out, and make her feel like the most special person in your world. Here are a few of our favourite ways to spend Mother’s Day on the Wharf.

Wining and dining for Mum’s day out

Wood Wharf Mothers day lunch

Whether you opt for breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dinner, a meal out together is one of the best ways to spend quality time with the mum in your life. A family get-together or one-to-one, from mums-eat-free to champagne toasts, here’s where to eat out in Canary Wharf on Mother’s Day.

Fizzy freebees

‘The best things in life are free’, sang Luther Vandross and Janet Jackson, and as it happens this Mother’s Day there’s some truth in that, with a number of freebies to help you celebrate your mum. Sustainable community market MMy Wood Wharf has a ‘Mum Eats Free’ lunch special on Sunday 30th March between 12pm and 5pm. The Boathouse at Wood Wharf invites you to enjoy Parisian jazz club vibes and a complimentary ‘Mum’osa’ drink for mums on Mother’s Day, while burger aficionados Patty&Bun are giving mums a free glass of Prosecco to enjoy with dinner.

Foodie favourites

For a unique and memorable meal that mums will love, the plant-based goodness of mallow is a treat, and their set ‘Taste of Mallow’ sharing menu is an opportunity to enjoy a seasonal menu that’s perfect for sharing. Another favourite that the whole family can enjoy, is Sticks’n’Sushi, bringing you convivial vibes and a fusion of Japanese fare. Tuck into their signature sushi and freshly grilled sticks, plus bento boxes for the kids. As a special touch for Mother’s Day, they’re giving away a limited number of postcards embedded with wildflower seeds for a small yet meaningful twist on the flower-giving tradition.

Mother’s Day brunch

Brunch has to be one of the most beautiful ways to spend a Sunday, perhaps dining before an afternoon stroll at Eden Dock. At Feels Like June the California vibes are in full swing – when you book Mother’s Day brunch and leave #MUM on the reservation note you will enjoy a complimentary glass of bubbles or a dessert. At ROKA it’s bottomless brunch with a twist as you tuck into Japanese robatayaki cuisine and premium sushi with plenty of champagne. If you haven’t quite decided which culinary cultural destination to land in, head to Caravan, where you are guaranteed a globally-inspired feast of options from peanut butter and blueberry jam brioche French toast to Korean style buttermilk fried chicken, topped off with a celebratory white peach Bellini.

Perfect pizza

Nothing says family time quite like tucking into pizza together. Whether you’re a family with kids or kids at heart, grab a slice and settle in for the evening in Italian style. Zizzi is a classic at Cabot Place, known for their authentic dishes and easy-going atmosphere. Personally we’re partial to a Harissa Gamberetto with king prawns, Roquito pepper pearls, courgette ribbons and a touch of spicy harissa. There’s also Franco Manca, bringing traditional Neapolitan methods to London, with 20-hour slow-risen sourdough bases, homemade mozzarella, organic tomato, and cured organic chorizo for optimum taste.

Sunday roast

Sunday lunch is a tradition that many of us know and love, but instead of dining at home, leave it to the pros this year, with options from some of the best chefs in town. At the waterfront wine bar, Humble Grape you’re guaranteed a sophisticated experience with options including slow braised lamb shank with honey roasted root vegetables. For a buzzy vibe, Hawksmoor Wood Wharf invites you to their eco-friendly floating pavilion for British steak and sustainable seafood, or a particularly special Sunday roast. Then again, for serious foodies, it has to be Blacklock. An ode to the traditional London chophouse where Sunday lunch includes options from Pig’s Head on Toast starters to 55-day aged beef rump… it’s a Sunday lunch that’s almost as good as Mum’s.

Family-friendly competition and a Bellini with a twist allow you to celebrate Mother’s Day with a bang at Clays Canary Wharf. The high-tech interactive clay target shooting experience invites you to a sleek, modern space with high-def screens, a spectacular bar, and even a treehouse-style DJ booth. Tuck into menus of delicious dishes such as Truffle Parmesan Chips and Pizzettes along with a complimentary English Pear Bellini for Mum on Sunday, 30th March.

Mamma Mia

The ultimate mother/daughter story, what could be more feel-good-factor than a special screening of Mamma Mia for Mother’s Day? Settle in for a day out together in the comfy and stylish surroundings of the Everyman Cinema at Crossrail Place; grab a sharing plate, burger, or cookie dough from the bar; and revel in the dulcet tones of Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried and an all-star cast.

Art exploration

Take a walk and make memories, as you get outside to enjoy a fusion of fresh air and fine art on the Children’s Art Trail. It’s the perfect way to entertain little ones, learn, and provide plenty of inspiration for inquisitive minds. Download a map and discover 12 pieces of art dotted around the Canary Wharf estate, brimming with captivating colour, interactive experiences, and activities to enjoy along the way.

Sail away with me

Gather your friends and family and get out onto the water in a boat made for up to eight people. Cruise through Docklands under the glow of Canary Wharf’s skyline and explore London from a different perspective. Bring a picnic, buy drinks from the kiosk and take one, two, or three hours to set sail. You don’t need a license or prior experience, just a sense of adventure and perhaps a jaunty sailor’s hat.

Of course, The White Company remains a perennial favourite for beautiful gifts from luxe loungewear to fresh fragrances.

Sweets for my sweet – the famous chocolatier, Charbonnel et Walker, has cornered the market in decadent truffles, and they go all out when it comes to presentation, especially when it comes to Mother’s Day. Spend more than £50 on a hamper or gift boxes of chocolates, and receive a complimentary mini truffle box selection worth £10.00. Then again, if you have a taste for something unique, Lakrids By Bülow are the Danish masters behind gourmet liquorice and their limited edition Spring range is ready to enjoy.
