If there’s any month that we consider to be the height of summer, it’s August. When the sun is out, the spirits are high and the holiday vibe is alive and well. Whether you have time off work or are making the most of your evenings, weekends, lunchtimes and alfresco coffee meetings, this season of optimism and outdoorsiness is upon us. From where to watch the Olympics to family dining London style, here are some of our favourite things to do in Canary Wharf this month.

    Feeling torn between making the most of the sunshine and enjoying the sporting thrills played out at the Olympics and Paralympics? For those not heading to Paris this summer, you can enjoy the best of all worlds, cheering on Team GB in the open air thanks to the best outdoor screens London has to offer. Pick up a picnic or pop by Canada Square Park for an impromptu gathering with friends, the free open air screenings will be showing all the major sporting moments as well as a full line up of films for every mood and occasion.

  2. All that jazz in Jubilee Park with the Docklands Sinfonia

    Level up your lunch break with classical music from the Docklands Sinfonia, who are playing a series of concerts in Jubilee Park throughout August. The young and vibrant symphony orchestra have become a cultural force in London’s dynamic Docklands, led by musical director Spencer Down. Their Brass Quintet will be performing bandstand jazz and popular classics from the movies on 14th, while their String Quartet will take to the stage with an eclectic array of music on 28th.

  5. Dining out at The Kids’ Table

    Giving parents a chance to enjoy dinner out with the kids without resorting to screen time, August sees the arrival of Canary Wharf’s unique Kids’ Table events at some of the best family-friendly restaurants London has hidden away. While adults sit back and enjoy their meal, kids have the freedom to head to a dedicated Kids’ Table brimming with arts and crafts activities. Go to Feels like June on 12th August, Emilia’s Crafted Pasta on 19th August or Sticks’n’Sushi on 26th August for fun and foodie favourites for the whole family.

  7. Race to the top at the Mario Kart Championship

    Following Wimbledon, the Euros and the Olympics this summer, the other big sporting event this summer has to be the Mario Kart Championship. Whether you’re competing to be crowned king of the Karts or you’re simply there to spectate, the Mario Kart Championship is a must-see event in Canary Wharf. Taking place on our Summer Screens in Canada Square Park, it’s free to enter. Players compete on Nintendo Switch in four heats before the Championship Final, in eager anticipation of who’s the fastest on Rainbow Road and the Mario Circuit.

    Summer nights are all about sundowners and sunsets, staying up late and watching the stars settle over London with a cocktail in hand. Thankfully, Canary Wharf is brimming with late night hotspots for the most stylish of city slickers. The Cocktail Club is a social hub complete with dynamic dining, a spacious bar, expansive terrace and a cocktail list including specialities like their Southside Royal laced with Prosecco, gin and absinthe. The Alchemist is known for its molecular mixology and metropolis views. Pergola On The Wharf always has our hearts for being a botanical rooftop haven that becomes a sultry escape with live DJ sets and drinks aplenty. Meanwhile, Boisdale of Canary Wharf is famous for its live music and a whole host of experiences, from a whisky bar to a heated terrace, skyline vistas, DJ nights, award-winning wine and expertly crafted cocktails.

  9.  Electric dreams with the Electric Summer Festival

    Electric Shuffle is well known for offering an unforgettable social experience with its unique take on shuffleboard, but this summer it’s taking things up a notch with their Electric Summer Festival brunch. Taking to Canary Wharf’s Summer Terrace in Cabot Square on 27th July and 24th August from 2.30pm until 4.30pm, they will be dialling up the heat for an experience that sizzles. Brazilian singer-songwriter Lucas Berloff and his saxophonist set the scene while you enjoy a Paloma slushie with Casamigos tequila on arrival, Prosecco or beers for every guest and two hours of bottomless pizza. It’s £40 per person and for those aged 18 and over only.
