The night before

What to do on New Year’s Eve in Canary Wharf? For an evening that lives up to expectations, gather friends for dinner at brasserie Marceline, which is hosting a classic French ‘lobster frites’ celebration on NYE. Roka, meanwhile, is offering special tasting menus, a DJ, and confetti at midnight, and Six by Nico will be serving one of its whimsical themed feasts.

A good evening is guaranteed at Boisdale Canary Wharf: the live music venue is hosting a party with the theme ‘One Night in Vegas’, featuring Suspiciously Elvis. If New Year’s means one thing to you, and that thing is cocktails, reserve a table at The Alchemist, which serves its concoctions with a side of theatre. The bar is offering a set menu and putting on a live DJ set to usher in 2025.

New Year’s Day

Start 2025 with Italian comfort food at Emilia’s Crafted Pasta or one of the elite burgers at Patty&Bun. Follow lunch with a walk in Canary Wharf ’s 16.5 acres of open spaces, planning your route around some of the 100-plus pieces of public art that reside here (there’s also a Children’s Art Trail). Another stop should be Eden Dock, a waterfront oasis in the heart of Canary Wharf. Finish your walk by browsing the January sales, popping into Tian Tian to stock up on ingredients for Chinese New Year.

A fresh start

January is the time to try new things. Like, for example, fitness programmes at Barry’s, Ultimate Performance or Third Space. Volleyball, basketball and badminton can be played at In2Sports, while Padium is the place for padel. Stock up on the necessary gear at lululemon, ASICS, Castore and JD Sports, and vitamins and health foods at Holland & Barrett.
