1pm Bite-Sized Opera with Lunchbreak Opera, (50mins)
Ever wondered what on earth opera was all about? Why is it so long and complicated? Well, Lunchbreak Opera comes to your rescue, on a mission to demystify this great artform. This bite-sized opera will take you on a whistle-stop tour of the weird and wonderful world of opera in its many eras and forms. Featuring four of London’s most exciting young opera singers!
7pm ‘The Barber of Seville’ Arias with the Scherzo Ensemble, (120mins)
Scherzo Ensemble will present Rossini’s The Barber of Seville in a semi-staged concert performance. Scherzo is a collective of young singers in the final stages of their training who come together to make music collaboratively. The show will be sung in Italian, and feature narration (in English) to help you know what’s going on.
The old miser Bartolo wants to marry his ward (the beautiful young Rosina) and he’s determined to do it before his staging of “The Useless Precaution” is through. Little does he know that his embittered handyman, Figaro, has been paid off by the young Count Almaviva, who also wants Rosina’s hand in marriage. Together they are working with the chorus to sabotage Bartolo’s plan, and secure Almaviva his bride.
- Rosina – Margo Arsane
