Elizabeth Line (Crossrail)

The Elizabeth Line will provide crucial links to Heathrow Airport, the City, West End and the Thames Gateway. It will provide additional rail capacity to support 200,000 jobs on the Isle of Dogs.

The Crossrail Act received royal assent on 23 July 2008 – construction commenced in 2009 and the line will be operational by 2018.

The scheme will include a new Canary Wharf station from where initially 12 10-car trains per hour will operate in each direction to Paddington, Heathrow Airport and Maidenhead in the west and Shenfield, Stratford, Abbey Wood and Woolwich in the east. It will reduce the travel time between Canary Wharf and key transport interchanges such as:

Liverpool Street to 7 minutes
Farringdon to 9 minutes
Bond Street to 14 minutes
Heathrow Airport to 42 minutes
